2003 Reunion Events
Welcome
Empehi
The Classes of the Fifties Reunion Committee conducted three events for
'50s Empehi Alums in June 2003:
A tour of Morgan Park High School and the local area:
Saturday, June 21, 2003:
Our motor coaches left from the The Hyatt Regency Oak Brook hotel at 10:00 am. The tour of the school and the "old neighborhood" lasted until about 1:00 p.m. The 134 people who went on the free tour busses (plus those who drove) thoroughly enjoyed seeing the school and all of the nostalgic nearby sites. It was great to visit our old haunts and to reminisce and to see all of the changes that have taken place at MPHS since the '50s!
Look familiar...? But where are the hall guards?
Alums relive old memories at Blackwelder Hall at MPHS.
At the swimming pool, several people asked the question, "In boys swimming classes, why did the boys have to swim naked, and the girls wore swim suits in their swimming classes?" The answer was unclear, while several alums said they never realized those had been the rules.
After touring MPHS, we stopped at the ever-popular Rainbow Cones on Western Avenue for some tasty, cool refreshment. On the way back to the hotel, we all tried our hand at shouting out the answers to '50s trivia questions posed by event organizers John Herder ('60) and Gene Stute ('59). We thank them for planning and conducting an outstanding event!
Alums gather for a taste from the past at Rainbow Cones.
Reunion Dinner/Dance:
Saturday, June 21, 2003:
586 alums and spouses/friends attended the highly successful Reunion Dinner/Dance at The Hyatt Regency Oak Brook Hotel in Oak Brook, IL. The party lasted from before 6:00 p.m. until after 12:00 a.m. and included:
 cash bars
 an excellent full-course dinner
 introductions and brief remarks
 DJ and dancing
old photos and videos on display; new photos and videos (including class photos)
class bulletin boards displaying photos, news articles, and other memorabilia
lots of reminiscing and conversation with Empehi classmates, friends, and teachers

Sunday Picnic:
Sunday, June 22, 2003:
275 people attended the picnic at The Hinsdale Community House. With great facilities indoors and out, the setting was perfect for a relaxed get-together and lunch following the more formal dinner/dance. We were able to continue the conversations of the night before, catch up with those that had been missed, and make plans for getting together again! We were treated to lots of good food and beverages and to the former cheerleaders leading us in the singing of "Empehi". The event began at 11:00 a.m., and many were still lingering well after 3:00 p.m., vowing to get together again soon!
There was plenty of good conversation, reminiscing, food, and drink at the Sunday picnic.
John Herder ('60) leads the cheerleaders in a memorable Empehi cheer.
They were two terrific days! We wish all '50s alums could have been there!
